Territory institutional film by drone: attractiveness, tourism, place marketing, price
A local authority wanting to attract businesses, residents or visitors increasingly tells its story in images — and the aerial view has become that story's signature. A drone shot shows in seconds what text struggles to convey: geographic setting, connections, landscape quality, the scale of a business park or a tourist site. For a town, an inter-municipal body, an attractiveness agency or a tourist office, the drone institutional film is a concrete place-marketing tool. Here is what sets a useful film apart from a merely pretty flyover, the overflight framework, the question of rights and the prices.

What makes a film useful, not just pretty
An aesthetic flyover is not enough: an effective institutional film tells an intention. Attracting businesses? Show the connections (junction, station, port), the available business parks, the economic ecosystem. Developing tourism? Stage the sites, the routes, the mood of the seasons. Retaining residents? Highlight the quality of life, the amenities, the accessible countryside. The drone serves that message, mixing wide situational shots with close-ups that give a human scale.
The effectiveness of aerial imagery in destination marketing is studied: the study by Stankov, Kennell, Morrison and Vujičić published in 2019 in the Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing, "The view from above", analyses the relevance of shared drone videos for destination promotion and stresses the value of the aerial viewpoint in conveying the "sense of a place" (see the study on Google Scholar). A viewpoint ground-level filming does not reproduce.
One production, several uses
A well-planned shoot feeds several channels: a main two-to-three-minute film for the website and trade shows, short vertical formats for social media, a reusable shot library and aerial stills for press and brochures. That is what makes the investment pay off: you are not producing a video, you are building a visual asset rolled out over a year or two.
The territory film ties in with the other uses of drone in institutional communication: the corporate and company film for the area's economic players, and the promotion of host sites such as outdoor hospitality. An attractiveness agency can coordinate these productions to give the territory a coherent visual identity.
The framework: overflying busy sites and heritage
Filming a territory often leads over busy places — town centres, markets, beaches, tourist sites — where overflying people is regulated: you do not overfly a gathering, you frame to avoid third parties, and you manage privacy. Monuments and protected sites, aerodrome surroundings and sensitive natural areas each impose their own preparation. A professional provider builds these constraints into the scouting and shooting plan, with the necessary authorisations.
The schedule matters as much as the technique: morning or late-day light, the season that shows the territory at its best, the crowds to avoid or to show depending on the message. Good scouting — often fed by a first set of shots — frames these choices before the main shoot.
Deliverables, rights and 2026 prices
One point to settle at the quote stage: the transfer of image usage rights to the local authority (duration, channels, distribution territory) and royalty-free music. Typical deliverable: the edited main film, short cut-downs, a rush library and stills. Orders of magnitude in 2026 (excl. VAT):
- Short film (one shooting day, one format edited): €1,200 to €2,500.
- Full institutional production (several seasonal shoots, film + cut-downs + image library): €3,000 to €8,000 and up depending on scope.
- Aerial shot library only (reusable raw rushes): on quote.
The service sits within our drone aerial video offer; request a quote stating the objective (economic attractiveness, tourism, quality of life), the sites to showcase and the intended distribution uses.
